The project tackles the regeneration of the plot of the neglected gunpowder magazine of via Tartini, fallen into disuse several decades ago. The program of the intervention consists of a nursery with its private garden, and of a public area with car parking and a tree-lined path. The intervention is part of the infrastructure contribution in return for the redevelopment of the former industrial site of Manifattura Tabacchi, an imposing complex with an area of about 100.000sqm located in proximity of the site.
The nursery is configured as a double court system with a platform frame and X-lam wood structure and high-performance materials. The adoption of various bioclimatic strategies and plant solutions aim to reach the LEED Platinum sustainability certification. The building will host two specular nurseries sharing common facilities (such as kitchen and technical plants) and a multipurpose atrium open to the community and able to host events and lessons. Each nursery is composed by three classrooms with nap room and toilets and by three ateliers for special activities.
